What the record doesn't show is that the Tuscon race was a disaster. It was 413 miles of extremly hot weather and micro-sand storms. These conditions proved to be too much for 689 birds sent to the race. At the end of the second day, only 60 birds had been reported. Ares clocked at 11:00 am on the second day, winning the race and ensuring his Racing Pigeon Union Hall of Fame Award.
